You're familiar with the saying "When it rains, it pours," right? Well there is nothing like having a hurricane hit you right as the holidays were coming into full gear!
I know things have been quiet around here lately. But life in the Sill household has become a project in itself. Two major events have taken place recently, and although it is all good, the timing wasn't the greatest. So I thought I would use my last blog post of 2013 to explain what's been going on over the past few weeks.
After months of living in a temporary apartment and out of suitcases, we have finally, finally moved into a house at the beginning of December. Welcome to MiraBay:
Looks like a Disney resort, huh?
We've visited this community several times over the summer and fell in love with the architecture of the homes, amenities and most importantly how accessible it is to water. Many of the homes here back up to canals, are along the lagoon and have boat docks in their backyards with water access to Tampa Bay. Knowing that our plan is to have a boat someday, we decided to rent in MiraBay first and give the community a test drive to see if we like it before we buy.
We cannot wait to explore the grounds, take advantage of the fitness center, spa and pool and meet new people. But first we have to get through this:
Oh how I wish those boxes were presents under a Christmas tree wrapped with pretty bows! But instead these boxes contain 10,000+ pounds of household goods that have been in storage for the past two years while we were living in Latvia. We had another shipment of 6,000+ pounds from Latvia that was delivered the Friday before Christmas.
This is what my house looked like five days before Christmas:
I am never, never, NEVER moving around the holidays again!!! You can quote me on that!
On top of this move, the other major change taken place is that I got a job.
It wasn't at all my intention to find work before the year was out. But it is taking longer than expected for Chris to find a job down here and when this job opportunity came up for me, I needed to take it. I took a position as a marketing coordinator/graphic designer with a company here in Tampa. I'm still trying to get the hang of things as it is more marketing than design, so I am feeling a bit out of my element (way out). But I have to confess that I am working right along side of my best friend of 30 years, Jill, so it makes going to a 9-5 job a bit more tolerable!
You can see the past 5 weeks have been a bit overwhelming. And really that is an understatement. I can't even begin to tell you how bummed I was not being able to complete my 2013 Project Life Album by the end of 2013 or do a December Daily Album this year. It really put me in a funk. I mean a funk. I stayed away from Facebook and stopped reading my favorite blogs because I knew seeing everyone's gorgeous projects and layouts would just make me feel worse. Silly, I know. But the fact is that doing these projects, sharing them with you, designing digital products and teaching classes brings me such joy and happiness. It is truly the source of where I get my energy from. I'm sure you are familiar with the phrase "do what you love, love what you do." I wanted digital design, photography and other DIY project tutorial/classes to be my full time job. Getting to that point will take a little longer than I hoped, but I am working on it.
Just because I am unable to give September Blue the 8+ hours a day that I want to right now doesn't mean will stop designing or not continue Project Life. Not at all! Stay tuned! Next week I will have a few new products in the shop (weekly/monthly titles, anyone?) and a blog post of how I will tackle Project Life in 2014!
I want to thank everyone that has supported me and September Blue during 2013. Your comments, feedback and product idea requests keep me going. I wish you a happy, healthy and creative 2014!
Now back to unpacking boxes...
